On Wednesday, September 18, at 9:30 a.m. (EDT), the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) held a meeting to review and discuss designs for the upcoming 2020 American Innovation $1 coins for Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, and South Carolina in addition to the Congressional Gold Medals for the USS Indianapolis and Chinese American Veterans of World War II. 22 Franklin Half Dollars Offered in Dallas

Franklin half dollars, which have been unusually absent from recent auctions, will be featured at Heritage Auctions upcoming U.S. Coin Auction at their world headquarters in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday, Oct. 17. Among the 22 Franklin halves being offered, two conditionally rare proofs highlight the offering – a superb 1950 PR-67+ Cameo NGC and an equally fantastic 1951 PR-67+ Ultra Cameo NGC . 1950 Franklin half dollar, graded PR-67+ Cameo. Stack’s Bowers Offers a Sneak Peek at November Baltimore Auction

While the official auction catalog has not been released at the time of this writing, Stack’s Bowers has released some press information about some of the collections that will be on the auction block during the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo in Baltimore, Maryland, Nov. 14-17, 2019 Stack’s Bowers will be offering the John W. Adams Collection of Comitia Americana on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019. In a release from Stack’s Bowers, they describe this collection as, “unparalleled in the two centuries since American collectors have sought to gather these medals together.” Of particular interest, a silver 1871 Daniel Morgan at Cowpens medal, unique in private hands, will be offered.   The last time this medal crossed the auction block was in 2001, where it broke a 23-year-old world record for the most valuable American medal sold at auction. CCAC Recommends Congressional Gold Medal Design Honoring Chinese-American Vets

Chinese-American veterans of World War II will be recognized with a congressional gold medal , according to the authorizing legislation, Public Law 115-337.   According to this legislation, “Chinese Americans served in the United States in every conflict since the Civil War and distinguished themselves in World War II, serving in every theater of war and every branch of service, earning citations for their heroism and honorable service, including the Medal of Honor.”   The act also indicates that as many as 20,000 Chinese-Americana served in the Armed Forces during World War II. At a public meeting held at the United States Mint in Washington, DC, on September 18, the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee reviewed and discussed the candidate designs for the Congressional Gold Medal honoring the Chinese-American Veterans of World War II.
