Fight for Circulation of Peratrovich Coin Continues

In January 2019, the Fairbanks Coin Club contacted the members of the Alaska State Legislature promoting the release of the Elizbeth Peratrovich dollar coin to circulation in Alaska. In the spring, local 4H leaders traveled to Juneau with a group as part of the 4H Youth in Government program. They lobbied all 60 legislators for a resolution calling for the release of the Peratrovich dollar to circulation in Alaska. They also met with Paulette Mareno, Grand President of the Alaska Native Sisterhood, who has been involved with the mint since the beginning of the planning for the Peratrovich dollar, according to the Fairbanks Coin Club. The results of the lobbying is HJR9, calling for the release of 5 million of the coins into circulation in Alaska.  This was passed by the State House with one dissenting vote. New Brexit Coin Released Today

Today, on Jan. 31, the Royal Mint released its new 50p coin in observance of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union. On the reverse of the coin is the phrase, “Peace, Prosperity and Friendship with all nations,” along with the date “31 January 2020.” The coin is available as gold and silver proof editions and a Brilliant Uncirculated edition that is part of a two-coin historic set. To honor this milestone in U.K. history, the Royal Mint is opening its doors for a unique tour that includes a discussion of how the Royal Mint has changed since the U.K. first joined the European Economic Community in 1973. All tours are now booked BUT there is still an opportunity for people to strike their own “Withdrawal from the EU” coin as part of the standard tours from Feb. 1 to Feb. 12, 2020. The Mint’s best-selling product this week was the 2020 American Silver Eagle one-ounce Proof coin (20EA) , which sold 195,803 units. In second place was the 2019 American Innovation $1 Reverse Proof coin — New Jersey (19GG) with 21,101 sold. The third best-selling item this week was the 2020 Congratulations Set (20RF) , with 14,633 individual units sold. It’s followed by the 2019-S Proof Set (19RG) , with 2,728 sold; and the 2019-S Silver Proof Set (19RH) , with 2,518 sold.
