The United States Mint has announced that it will host the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park Quarter Launch and Coin Exchange to commemorate the release of the 2019 San Antonio Missions National Historical Park quarter. This is the 49th coin to be released in the United States Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters® program.
The coin forum will take place on Sept. 4, 2019 from 6:00 P.M to 7:00 P.M. (CT) at the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park Visitor Center. The address is 6701 San Jose Drive, San Antonio, Texas, 78214.
A coin exchange follows on Sept. 5 at 10:00 A.M., immediately following the quarter launch event. There will be a one-roll ($10 minimum) and a 10-roll ($100 maximum). This event will be at the Laurie Auditorium at Trinity University, One Trinity Place, San Antonio, Texas, 78212.
The San Antonio Missions were among the largest concentrations of Spanish missions in North America, established in the 1700s, and helped create the foundation for the City of San Antonio, Texas. The construction of aqueducts and irrigation canals (acequias) brought water to the missions sustaining farming and ranching. The missions’ toolmaking, carpentry, looming, spinning, and masonry also contributed to the community’s ability to be self-sustaining.
This design depicts elements of the Spanish Colonial Real coin to pay tribute to the missions. Within the quadrants are symbols of the missions: wheat symbolizes farming; the arches and bell symbolize community; a lion represents Spanish cultural heritage; and a symbol of the San Antonio River represents irrigation methods and life-sustaining resources.
Bags and rolls for the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park Quarters go on sale Aug. 26, while a 2019 uncirculated five ounce silver coin will be available Aug. 29. On Sept. 10, the Mint will offer a 2019 quarter three-coin set as well.
