Dollar Day opens May Regency sale

Legend’s 26th Regency Auction in May was a two-day event held May 16-17 in New Orleans that used the first day to offer 237 silver dollars.

The first day’s offerings were anchored by the P.F.M. Collection of Morgan Dollars, selections from the world-famous Aurora Borealis Collection of Toned Morgan Dollars, and the Crow River Collection of Peace Dollars.

The highest-grossing lot in the session was the 1892-S dollar graded MS-65 by the Professional Coin Grading Service from the P.F.M. Collection – the current No. 6 PCGS Registry Set – which sold for $193,875.

• Lot 44 – $1 1882 PCGS MS-67 CAC realized $28,200

• Lot 77 – $1 1889-CC PCGS MS-63 realized $42,300

• Lot 78 – $1 1889-O PCGS MS-66+ realized $43,475

• Lot 89 – $1 1891-O PCGS MS-65 DMPL CAC realized $58,750

• Lot 116 – $1 1899-O Micro O. PCGS MS-64+ CAC realized $32,900

• Lot 131 – $1 1903-S PCGS MS-66 CAC realized $25,850

• Lot 171 – $1 1880-S MS-65+ CAC realized $10,281

• Lot 207 – $1 1921 Peace PCGS MS-66 CAC realized $18,212

• Lot 222 – $1 1927-D PCGS MS-66 CAC realized $41,125

• Lot 229 – $1 1934-S PCGS MS-66 CAC realized $32,900

• Lot 232 – $1 1925 PCGS MS-67+ CAC realized $32,900

Among the highlights of the second day was lot 299, a restrike Confederate States of America cent, Copper PCGS Proof-64 BN CAC, which realized $52,875.

“The Regency Auction enjoyed record phone, internet and live bidding in the room through both nights’ sales. We have never seen such a turnout for our auctions,” Laura Sperber said.

Heritage Readies Long Beach Paper Money Auction

By Tracy Schmidt  There are many spectacular notes in Heritage’s upcoming Long Beach auction. The top five I will be keeping an eye on are notes of exceptional quality. I look forward to sharing the auction results with you next month. The first note is Lot 20637, a $10,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note PMG-graded Unc. 66 EPQ. According to Heritage, the note is one of just three $10,000s certified by PMG at this level for all series and districts. Having perfect centering, ideal colors, and excellent eye appeal, it should be a great performer. The note is projected to exceed its estimate of $200,000-$300,000. At the time of writing, the note has 13 bids and registered phone bidders; the lot tracking activity stands at 94, and there have been 3,010 page views.
