New Brexit Coin Released Today

Today, on Jan. 31, the Royal Mint released its new 50p coin in observance of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union.

On the reverse of the coin is the phrase, “Peace, Prosperity and Friendship with all nations,” along with the date “31 January 2020.” The coin is available as gold and silver proof editions and a Brilliant Uncirculated edition that is part of a two-coin historic set.

To honor this milestone in U.K. history, the Royal Mint is opening its doors for a unique tour that includes a discussion of how the Royal Mint has changed since the U.K. first joined the European Economic Community in 1973. All tours are now booked BUT there is still an opportunity for people to strike their own “Withdrawal from the EU” coin as part of the standard tours from Feb. 1 to Feb. 12, 2020.
